Automating IRF-PAI Data Collection
The Challenge
- A large inpatient rehab facility wanted to simplify the data collection and reporting process required by CMS’s IRF-PAI.
- Previously, the process was completed manually by a team who would painstakingly review the patient's records.
The Solution
- Using ITW’s powerful method of capturing and storing discrete data points, we were able to build an automated process for compiling the data.
- Additionally, we were able to build the system in such a way that validating and correcting the data (while still retaining the integrity of the original information) was as simple a process as it could be.
The Result
- Since the data is pulled automatically from the documentation the therapy team was already completing, there was no additional burden placed on the team.
- The system worked so well the hospital used the process to complete an IRF-PAI on every patient, even though it was only required on those who had Medicare.
Update: this forward-thinking is paying dividends now in 2024 with CMS now requiring an IRF-PAI on all patients starting this October.
- Once reviewed, the data is electronically transferred to eRehabData for benchmarking and deeper analysis.
